Dr. Bartholomew Watson is an Associate with The Barthwell Group.  Dr. Watson has most recently worked on projects related to higher education at The Barthwell Group.  Dr. Watson is a nationally known expert in large-scale assessment design and implementation.  He has served as the Chief Economist for the Brewers Association for the past seven years.  In his role there, he designs and executes multiple surveys, including an annual production survey with 3,500 responses and their bi-annual Brewery Operations Benchmarking Survey, a comprehensive survey of America’s craft brewers which serves to compile brewery operations information and establish and share industry benchmarks.  He has been a lecturer in the School of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley, and is currently a lecturer in the Department of Political Science at Berkeley.

Dr. Watson received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley where he wrote a dissertation on the comparative political economy of retail trade.  He completed his undergraduate degree at Stanford University, where he earned a B.A. (with departmental honors) in Political Science.

He has published peer-reviewed articles on innovation and adaptability in a digital age and the comparative implementation of digital technology in the retail sector as well as book chapters on productivity growth and national economic adjustment.
